Participate in an internationally recognized course in middle ear and skull base surgeries

Since 1985, each year, the Gruppo Otologico and the AINOT (Associazione Italiana Neuro-Otologica) jointly have been organizing middle ear and skull base surgery dissection courses. In the last couple of decades these courses have been the most sought after courses in Europe for middle ear and skull base dissection surgical dissection training.

The objective of these courses are to make the participants learn the surgical anatomy of the temporal bone in middle ear and lateral skull base surgeries from the very best surgeons in the field.

The 5 day courses are held in the June and October-November of each year at the Gruppo Otologico institute (Piacenza) and are designed for both beginners and experienced surgeons. Apart from dissections on the temporal bone, participants also have the opportunity to attend lectures on diagnostic and surgical neuroradiology, clinical cases as well as witness live and recorded surgical sessions.

The participants also have the chance to interact with some of the biggest names in the field of otology, neurotology, skull base surgery, neuroradiology who will be invited as faculty at these courses. We have limited seats and hence we recommend that you register well in advance due to the large number of applications each year.

Otology & Skull Base Surgery Courses

Middle ear course (June 1st - 6th, 2015)

This course is aimed at refining the participants knowledge of the anatomy of the temporal bone and learning more demanding surgery including the transcanal and transmastoid approaches to the middle ear, open and combined approach tympanoplasty, facial nerve decompression, the translabrynthine approach, the modified transcochlear approach and enlarged middle cranial fossa approach.

The course is scheduled from Monday to Friday 8 am - 5 pm. They are divided into 2 sessions

Morning - Anatomy and surgical video session with lectures before the beginning of the surgical sessions followed by live surgery with live interaction with surgeons from the operating theatre

(Possible range of surgeries include the entire gamut of important ear surgeries)

Afternoon - Temporal bone dissections on middle ear and petrous apex supervised by the course faculty and supervisors

Skull base course (July 20th - 24th & October 12th - 16th, 2015

This course is aimed at refining the participants knowledge of the anatomy of the skull base and learning more final stage surgery including the infratemporal fossa approaches type A, B, C and D, modified transcochlear approach, transpetrosal, retrosigmoid and middle cranial fossa approaches

The course is scheduled from Monday to Friday 8 am - 5 pm. They are divided into 2 sessions
Morning - Anatomy and surgical video session with lectures before the beginning of the surgical sessions followed by live surgery with live interaction with surgeons from the operating theatre
(Possible range of surgeries include the entire gamut of important skull base surgeries)
Afternoon - Temporal bone dissections on middle ear and petrous apex supervised by the course faculty and supervisors
